Moving Up

Mid June is a busy time for proms and graduations.
And even though we are still in Elementary School, we still have our fair share of parties and Moving-Up Ceremonies.
Our oldest graduated 6th Grade this week.....
It brought tears to my eyes to see my first baby achieve this major milestone.
And I couldn't be prouder.

Playing Citi Field

For the second year in a row,
our Elementary School's Advanced Band played The National Anthem to open
the Met's Game at Citi Field.
What better way to spend Father's Day....than to watch your child stand on the
baseball diamond of a major league team's home stadium.
It was simply amazing.
The kids did an amazing job and no Mom could be prouder.
(And the  Met's winning the game against the Cub was just icing on the cake!

Happy Summer Solstice!

First Day of Summer. It officially arrived at 1:04AM EST.
The Summer Solstice.
Longest Day of the Year!
Oh Happy Day!
It also marks here the last day of school.
We couldn't be happier.
Time for sleeping late, walking barefoot, lazy days, swimming in the pool and collecting shells at the beach, chasing fireflies and gazing up at the stars...happy times with family and friends. Life a bit more relaxed. Ah, Summer!
Wishing Everyone a very Happy and Fun Summer!

One Last Look

Peonies are my absolute favorite flower.
My white ones were the last to bloom and gave me the most fun to photograph.
Here is a look the last of my blooms for 2013.
Now I have to wait an entire year to see them again....
But I have my favorite photographs to remember them by.
Here is one more look....

Summer Raspberries

We have wild raspberries growing all over my garden.
They have just finished flowering..... which means the berries won't be too far behind.
The boys and  I love walking through the garden come July to pick and eat all those yummy berries.
At least we try to get as many as we can before the birds find them.
They seem to find the raspberries yummy as well.

Have you been to a Recorder Concert?

This week my 3rd Grader and his fellow 3rd Graders had their recorder concert.
You could see on their little faces how proud they all were ...performing in their first concert.
And they were actually very very good.
Next year my youngest moves on to the cello and beginner orchestra concert.
If he is as enthusiastic with the cello as with the recorder...
It is going to be wonderful.
Can't wait!

Happy Flag Day

Flag Day 2013
Unfortunately due to the weather, our school had to cancel today's outdoor festivities.
So I decided to honor Flag Day by looking back at last year's celebration.
My then 2nd Grader celebrated with his school by writing a poem as to what makes America special.
And his poem won 1st place for 2nd Grade.
He was so proud and thrilled to win an actual American flag.
Rain or Shine, we have a wonderful Country and an equally wonderful Flag to represent it.
Happy Flag Day everyone.

Fun at the Luau

My 6th Grader is finishing up his time at the elementary school...
and the class of 2013 celebrated with a fun-filled luau-themed party.
Although the party was to be outside.....
And wasn't....(Thank-you Tropical Storm Andrea for dropping 5 inches of rain on us!)..
The kids managed to have a wonderful time non-the-less.
Here is how it went!
xoxo S.

Tropical decor with surfboards, leis, and fish

Rubber bracelets stating "Surf's Up"

Shaved Ice in all different flavors and colors
Lemonade

and Watermelon to cool off as well.

Doing the Limbo

Boys just want to have fun!

Nothing like a good burger!

June Roses

It's June.
So that means Roses.
And my tiny, but quite impressive rose garden is in full bloom.
Something so simple yet elegant about a single rose.
Don't you agree?

My White Peonies

As far as I'm concerned this week will be the high point in our garden.
My white peonies have opened and are blooming....Hurray!
Although their showy display lasts merely a week....
It is truly worth the year-long wait.
And for one glorious week I am (almost) in Heaven!
